From Friday, November 16, to Friday, December 14, "Force of Invention: The Sublime Worlds of Lenore Thomas, Sarah Smelser and Karen Kunc" will be on display in the Davis Gallery at Houghton House.
An opening reception will be held on Friday, Novemeber 16, from 7-9 p.m. in the Davis Gallery.
In the world of visual art, invention is paramount. Invention creates and extends tradition, forcing both artist and viewer beyond the known. Through a process of imagination and exprimentation, practice and mastery, invention offers us new ways to look at the worlds we live in, and to the experience of being human.
Lenore Thomas, Sarah Smelser and Karen Kunc, each create sublime, inventive worlds, worlds of luminous color, whimsy and occassional dark undertones. Each responds directly and differently to the forms of nature, to the spaces and places in which we live, to the phenomenon of light, and to the need to find order in it all.
Davis Gallery hours are Monday - Friday from 9 a.m. -5 p.m.; Saturday from 1 - 5 p.m.; the gallery is closed Sundays.
