Wednesday, Dec. 5, Michael Hardt will join the Fisher Center for the Study of Women and Men to discuss “The Right to the Common”at 7 p.m. in the Geneva Room.
The right to the common is becoming a central demand of many contemporary social struggles. The first task of this lecture is to define the common and articulate its characteristics in distinction from both the private and the public. The second task is to explore the ways in which different social movements, including Occupy, are oriented toward the common.
Michael Hardt is the chair of the Literature Program at Duke. He is co-author with Antonio Negri of Declaration as well as the Empire trilogy (Empire, Multitude, and Commonwealth). He currently serves as editor of The South Atlantic Quarterly.
