Liam "LAMBO" Mahoney '11 will open for notable hip-hop artist Waka Flocka Flame on Thursday, Jan. 23 at the Middle East Restaurant and Nightclub in Cambridge, Mass. After recently receiving the gig, Mahoney said he hopes the performance will help propel his career to the next stage as an up and coming hip-hop artist.
"It's honestly a pretty wild feeling," said Mahoney, who has been a fan of Waka Flocka Flame for quite some time. "Just thinking about being the one whose job it will be to get the crowd hyped for one of the biggest names in the game is pretty hard to conceptualize."
The show will get underway at 8 p.m. and tickets are currently on sale.
Mahoney, who graduated with a B.A. in media and society, is currently a Boston-based hip-hop writer, performer and producer. Following graduation, he held a number of corporate roles in the industry before realizing that his true passion was in writing and producing music.
"Since the moment I decided that music was what I was going to do with my life, I have been all in," he explained. "When you give it everything you've got, people recognize and respect that and things begin to fall in place."
Mahoney recalls listening to Waka Flocka Flame in the basement of Delta Chi, where he was a brother. Additionally, he says Hobart played a major role in the success he is experiencing today.
"Hobart developed in me the necessary skills to be able to walk into any room or any situation, and feel confident that I will be able to handle whatever comes my way," he said. "From my time in the classroom to the social experiences, my time at the Colleges was invaluable."
