For the eighth consecutive season, the Hobart College rowing team's varsity eight placed in the top 10 at the Head of the Charles in Boston. The Statesmen improved their standing two spots over 2012, finishing seventh out of 40 crews in the collegiate eights race.
The 4,800-meter race on the Charles River is the largest two-day race in the world.
Senior coxswain Jessica Dinan, sophomore stroke August Wherry, junior Robert McNamara, junior Nicholas Baca, sophomore Brett Lawhon, sophomore Julien Green, sophomore Patrick Ware, sophomore Davis Muller, and sophomore bow Dylan Brodie started ninth. The Statesmen passed McGill, which started seventh, on the course and finished with a faster time than Grand Valley State, which started third. Hobart had the fourth fastest split through Riverside Boat Club (3:37.26) and finished with a time of 15:44.11, just 0.13 seconds behind sixth place Bucknell.
It was Hobart's best finish at the Charles since placing sixth in 2010.
The Statesmen will close out their fall racing season on Nov. 2, when they compete in the Cornell Invitational.
