Cytryn ’14 Holds 2nd Markit Internship

Working on a double major in economics and international relations, Courtney Cytryn '14 this summer completed a second internship with the international financial industry leader, Markit, Inc.
While studying abroad last spring, Cytryn worked at Markit's London office and over the summer she completed an internship experience in the company's New York City office. Combined, the exposure gave Cytryn insights into the emerging global financial service company from two distinct continents and cultures.
"Through this experience, I have gained new perspectives, created valuable relationships with employees, and realized the importance of developing good communication and social skills," she says.
Markit, whose chief operating officer is HWS Trustee Calvin "Chip" Carver Jr. '81, serves clients in the most significant institutions of the financial marketplace. The company has won numerous awards for its investment in product innovation and technology development. Founded in 2001, Markit's goal as to create services that enhance transparency and improve operational efficiency in the financial industry.
Cytryn's responsibilities with Markit included working closely with the credit default swaps team on demos with clients and analyzing company outreach. She also attended daily lessons in Six Sigma, a business improvement methodology. Her experience included forming contacts across the globe, which encouraged her to learn new concepts and pursue various work projects. She describes the environment as "challenging and nurturing at the same time."
"The professional exposure I received during my internships was very beneficial and it really allowed me to open my eyes to financial services," Cytryn says.
On campus, Cytryn has immersed herself in numerous leadership roles, which she says have helped her to "gain great communication and leadership skills, which every individual needs to be successful."
Cytryn's advice to HWS undergraduates is to take advantage of the wonderful Salisbury Center for Career Service and Professional Development and to be "proactive, persistent and personable."
