Students interested in pursuing an internship or research experience abroad during winter break may apply for a $5,000 award to cover lodging, round-trip airfare and a stipend. Supported by gifts from a donor who wishes to remain anonymous, the new award will be provided to one student annually. The application deadline for this year is Friday, Nov. 15.
Preference will be given to a student pursuing a green internship or research experience, which must be completed during winter break of the recipient's sophomore, junior or senior year.
"By supplementing classroom education with off-campus experiences, students will gain practical insights and a heightened understanding of the demands and rewards of future careers," says Brandi Ferrara, director of the Salisbury Center for Career Services and Professional Development.
After returning to campus, the recipient must give a PowerPoint presentation summarizing his or her experience as part of an informational session for potential new applicants. The student must also write a two-page paper summarizing the experience, which will be provided to the donor. Academic credit will not be awarded for the internship.
Anyone interested in applying should contact Ferrara at firstname.lastname@example.org or 315-781-3514. Students will be notified by Nov. 20. Applications will be evaluated by Career Services and two faculty members.
