Eyle Interns with NPR Station

Posted on Thursday, July 11, 2013

Syracuse native Maximilian Eyle '15 has returned to his hometown to intern with NPR station WAER 88.3 FM.

At the radio station, Eyle is working in the newsroom, conducting interviews both on the phone and in the field. He is also editing and pulling sound bytes, as well as writing news stories to be read by broadcasters on-air.

WAER is a commercial free, listener supported public media organization licensed to Syracuse University, offering jazz, news programs, Syracuse University sports, and weather.

Eyle brings to WAER his strong interest in the fields of journalism and radio broadcasting and his experience at the Colleges' radio stations, WHWS 105.7 FM, where he co-hosts a music show with a classmate, and WEOS 89.7 FM, the public radio station of the Finger Lakes.

Eyle notes the campus stations and the manager, Greg Cotterill, as the primary catalysts in Eyle pursuing a career in radio.

"The opportunities at the HWS radio station allowed me to become familiar with the necessary equipment and develop the speaking skills necessary to work at another station," says Eyle. "We are lucky to have such a well developed station on campus that gives students the chance to not only host their own shows but to work with an NPR station as well."

Eyle is an American studies major with a minor in Spanish language. He is the president and instructor of the HWS Argentine tango club, Libertango.
