In an effort to highlight the exceptional work of HWS students and the members of the faculty and staff, the Center for Community Engagement and Service Learning (CCESL) will host the annual Community Engaged Scholarship Forum. All are invited to attend the interactive and informal session on Tuesday, May 7, from 4:30 - 5:30 p.m. in the Vandervort Room of the Scandling Campus Center.
The hour-long forum will allow members of the Hobart and William Smith and Geneva communities to share and experience the work of the Colleges' students. Students will be on hand to present their work via posters, videos and demonstrations.
"Our students find that their learning is significantly enhanced when they engage in collaborative research with community partners and work with them to meet the goals of their agencies," explains Katie Flowers, director of CCESL. "The results of these mutually beneficial research projects are presented at the Forum and archived for future reference."
This year, the forum welcomes keynote speaker Timothy K. Eatman. Eatman is an assistant professor of higher education at Syracuse University and the co-director of Imagining America, an organization of publicly engaged artists, designers, scholars, and other community members that works with institutions of higher education to enrich civic life for all.
Eatman will share remarks on the mutually beneficial impact of community engaged research and learning. At the conclusion of the program, Eatman will join those interested in learning more about community engaged scholarship for dinner.
As part of the event, CCESL will take the time to recognize exceptional student scholars, civically engaged faculty members, and supportive community members for their work.

Eatman earned degrees in the field of education; he received his B.S from Pace University and his M.Ed. from Howard University. He earned his Ph.D. in educational policy studies from the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign before being awarded a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Michigan's Center for the Study of Higher and Postsecondary Education.
He has also served as Associate Professor of Education at Spring Arbor University and Associate Director for the Academic Investment in Math and Science Progran at Bowling Green State University, Ohio. Eatman is a fellow with the Burton Blatt Institute at Syracuse University and a visiting fellow at the New England Resource Center for Higher Education.
