The Scandling Trust

Thanks to Bill Scandling, his confidence in Hobart and William Smith, and his belief in bringing everyone together for the common good, all gifts in support of scholarships and financial aid, internships, and entrepreneurial initiatives, regardless of the size or structure, support The Scandling Trust initiative.

Annual Giving Opportunities

Annual gifts of any size can be directed toward financial aid, internships or entrepreneurial initiatives through The Annual Fund. An Annual Fund Scholarship, an Annual Fund Internship, or Annual Fund Entrepreneur can be created with a commitment of $5,000 or more, for five years. These named, fully expendable funds will directly support the financial aid of current students with demonstrated need or will support three students’ participation in an unpaid internship.

Endowed Fund Opportunities

New endowed scholarship or internship funds can be created in the donor’s name with gifts of $100,000 or more.

Planned Giving

In addition to making outright gifts, all of the above opportunities can be supported with a planned gift. By naming the Colleges as a beneficiary of your will or retirement plan, funding a charitable gift annuity or charitable remainder trust, or converting unused real estate into income, you can provide for your loved ones, take advantage of tax savings opportunities and create your own legacy at the Colleges.

Your planned gift can be designated in support of scholarships and financial aid, internships and entrepreneurial initiatives. All planned gifts – regardless of size – result in the donor’s recognition as a member of the Colleges’ Wheeler Society.
