Why did you choose Hobart and William Smith Colleges? I went to my high school college day intending to find out about a number of schools, but ended up spending the entire session with the HWS representative. I was intrigued by the small class size and the chance to get to know your professors. I was won over by the warm sense of community. I was contacted by alums, by admissions officers, students and professors. I felt welcomed and wanted. It was an easy choice.
How do you stay connected to the Colleges? As a member of the Board of Trustees I stay very closely connected to the Colleges. Also, I like to host students and participate in student activities on the West Coast.
What makes the Colleges special? The professors. I had professors who saw in me potential I didn't see in myself. They helped me reach goals I would have thought unreachable.
Why do you give back to HWS? If I can help just one student have the experience I had at HWS, I would consider my involvement with the Colleges worthwhile.
What are your goals as a Regional Network volunteer? To help expand the reach of the Colleges in the West and to solidify the HWS community on the West Coast.
What advice would you give to an incoming or current HWS student? Take advantage of all that is available at HWS. Get out of your comfort zone and explore different courses, different clubs, and different people. And get to know your professors.
