Why did you choose Hobart and William Smith Colleges? Hobart College provided an amazing opportunity to get a strong education while also continuing to play hockey, all in a picturesque college setting.
How do you stay connected to the Colleges? I remain deeply connected to the Colleges through social media, faculty and staff (Professor of Political Science Iva Duetchman and Alumni House), fellow alums, Reunion and service on the Alumni committees over the years.
What makes the Colleges special? So many things, from the campus to the faculty and staff and top notch education. But the further I am from my undergrad days two elements gain prominence, including the deep commitment to civic service and the unique student environment that challenged me to understand how relationships work and bonds are built - many that I retain today and skills used in my daily life.
Why do you give back to HWS? Simply, Hobart College helped shape me as a person in ways few other experiences have, and I am so very thankful.
What are your goals as a Regional Network volunteer? The Southeast has a significant number of alums, many of whom are skeptical of alumni relationships and do not remain deeply involved with the Colleges. My hope is that we provide a new vehicle for engaging these alums and reconnecting them to the campus and our network.
What advice would you give to an incoming or current HWS student? Actively take advantage of the rich opportunities available on campus - the people, lessons and classroom knowledge will be fond in your memory upon graduation and provide a foundation that uniquely prepares you for future success no matter the field.
