SOUTHWEST REGION PROFILE

Carol Hayden Warren ’60

Southwest William Smith Vice President

Green Valley, Ariz.

Co- House Manager, Folwell House

Major: American Studies

Why did you choose Hobart and William Smith Colleges? I wanted out of Rhode Island and Hobart at least was Episcopalian.  At least that is how I found William Smith.

How do you stay connected to the Colleges? Mostly through reading material: The Pulteney Street Survey, e-mail newsletter and other reports.

What makes the Colleges special? Their size. I never wanted a large school and even though HWS is larger now it is still a good size. Additionally, there is so much more activity than when I was there.  Being a world traveler, I would have loved having a semester abroad.

Why do you give back to the Colleges? Always have since graduation. The Colleges were important to me but I can see how much they have improved since then and I want to support that.

What are your goals as a Regional Network Volunteer? As a Regional Network volunteer in an area (Southwest) that does not have a high population of current students or alums, I would love to get more young people interested in the Colleges.

What advice would you give to an incoming or current HWS student? Have fun but be serious about your studies.  Take advantage of everything that is offered.
