Why build a performing arts center?

While we have dramatically added to our academic, residential, and athletic space during Campaign for the Colleges, the performing arts remain the one area in which our current facilities are woefully lacking. Prospective students are looking for state-of-the-art facilities – and seeing them at all of our competitors. Our students come to us from high schools with better facilities. Participation in the performing arts fosters the types of skills and vision that our students will need as they lead their 21st century lives.

Where will the building be located?

The 55,000 sq. ft. Performing Arts Center and the new Performing Arts Green will occupy nearly the entire space currently filled by the Medbery parking lot. It will be directly across Pulteney Street from the Scandling Campus Center.

Where will everyone park?

Additional space will be provided on either side of Pulteney Street, off Hamilton Street for daily parking and for performances in the evening.

When will it be ready?

We will break ground when we have sufficient funding towards this $28 Million project. It is estimated that construction will take from 16 to 18 months.

How much have we raised?

To date, we have received $18,000,000 in gifts and pledges. This is the largest amount of money we have ever received for one project which will ultimately cost nearly four times as much as anything we have previously constructed.

How can I participate?

All gifts are welcome! No gift is too small. Individual naming opportunities abound in a building of this size and scope from practice rooms to offices, a green room and scene shop, instrument storage and a box office, seats in the studio theatre and dance performance space, to name just a few. What will become of the Bartlett Theatre?

The Bartlett Theatre, home to our student productions for decades, will be completely renovated during the next phase of the project. It will be returned to the elegant space it was and will be used for a variety of college programs and will add to our existing spaces for music performances.

Will it be used year-round?

Absolutely. We envision everything from day camps in the arts, to offering "in-residence" opportunities to music, dance and theatre ensembles, to becoming the home for a "Finger Lakes Festival." There are currently more than five million visitors to the Finger Lakes each year, giving us great potential for building on our "Geneva Partnership."

Will it be a "green" building?

Yes. Our current plans include building to a LEED Silver designation. We are currently investigating the costs that would have to be incurred to realize a LEED Gold status.

What's the best way to make a gift to the Performing Arts Center?
