All materials must be submitted by November 15th if applying as an Early Decision candidate or January 15th if applying as an Early Decision II or Regular Decision candidate.

Requirements for Submission

  • HWS Scholarship Application
  • Letter of Recommendation from a private instructor or teacher in the specific art form you are applying for that can speak to your abilities
    • A recommendation that you submit on the Common Application from this same private instructor or teacher may also be used

  • Audition: Those students interested in the Arts Scholarship in Dance must audition in person. Auditions will be held on Friday, November 10, 2017, 3:00-6:00 p.m. and Friday, February 16, 2018, 9:00 a.m.-12:00 p.m. Early Decision applicants must attend the November 10, 2017 audition. Both the November and February auditions are Open Auditions and will include a full technique class in classical ballet and contemporary dance forms, performance of a short solo of any dance genre (1-3 minutes), and a gathering with current arts scholars and dance faculty. Applicants may choose Choreography or Performance as the focus of their audition. The solo performance must be of your own choreography only if applying for the Choreography scholarship.
    • Note: Audition registration is through the Office of Admissions. If applicants are unable to attend the audition, they are encouraged to arrange an equivalent audition experience so they can demonstrate their skills in person. Please contact Donna Davenport (davenport@hws.edu) to set up an individual audition.
