Welcome to Hobart and William Smith Colleges’ Family Loan and Resource Center! We hope that you find this portion of our website to be useful in your application for educational loans. For your convenience, HWS is now a participant in the Federal Direct Loan Program. To simplify the loan application process we have created a navigation link for each loan type as well as your Entrance and Exit Counseling Requirements.
If you find that you need additional loan funds, we recommend that all federal aid and loans be exhausted prior to applying for private alternative loans. Under the Private Alternative Loans tab, we have provided a list of the Alternative Loan lenders that our students have borrowed through in the past. We are happy to certify a loan from any lending institution. In the case that a family opts to work with a lender that we have not previously worked with and there are instances when our loan certifying officer is not able to retrieve necessary information for a lender, then the student or parent borrower must become an active member in the resolution of any problems.
