Our Partnership with Geneva Human Rights Commission: An Assessment of Fair Housing Knowledge

Human Rights Commission

The Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) requires that any recipient of federal housing funds be obligated to Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing (AFFH) and to be in compliance with the Fair Housing Act and other federal civil rights laws. In other words, organizations must proactively take steps to extend and enhance housing opportunities to all members of a community and eliminate discriminatory actions in all areas of the housing market. This includes private and public sectors. The Geneva Human Rights Commission (GHRC) received a grant from HUD in partnership with HWS to create an AFFH Research and Resource Center in Geneva, NY. We are engaged in Phase One of the project which involves:

  • Database of recipients of federal/state housing funds
  • Local/regional AFFH Quotient Survey
  • Analysis of segregation patterns in Geneva
  • Assessment of fair lending practices in Geneva
  • Accessible housing needs analysis in Geneva
