Carrie Woerner spoke at the 2012 induction dinner.
Pi Sigma Alpha is the national Political Science Honor Society. It has chapters in approved colleges and universities. Hobart and William Smith applied to start a local chapter and our request was granted in 1999. Professor Iva E. Deutchman is the president of the Chi Phi (HWS) chapter.
Each spring we induct those political science majors who have made the academic cut. Those inducted in their junior year must have a 3.7 gpa, while the gpa for senior inductees is 3.5. National rules require that inducted students have had six political science classes. In 2012 we inducted five seniors, in addition to the two students who were inducted when they were juniors in 2011. In April of each academic year we host an induction dinner to celebrate our students’ achievements. This year, Carrie Woerner was the guest speaker. Carrie is currently running for the New York State Assembly (November 2012) in a district outside of Albany, New York.
