The Education Department offers programs leading to certification and a Master of Arts in Teaching in childhood education (grades 1-6), childhood and special education (grades 1-6) and several disciplines at the adolescence level (grades 7-12).
Through these programs, students learn to teach through hands-on experience in local classrooms.
Students in the program may major in almost any discipline or program offered by the Colleges, with the provision that those seeking adolescence certification must major in the subject area in which they wish to be certified (mathematics, chemistry, English, etc.).
These programs have been approved by the New York State Education Department. By reciprocal agreement, New York State certification is recognized in many other states.
