Pat McGuire L.H.D. ’12, Co-Chair of Culture of Respect
Professor Emeritus of Economics Pat McGuire has served the Colleges in a variety of leadership roles for more than 40 years, including as interim provost and dean of faculty. With his colleague, Professor Emeritus of Political Science Joe DiGangi, McGuire co-founded the Colleges' Public Policy program in Washington, D.C., which he led as faculty director 10 times. He co-taught the "Two Cities" bi-disciplinary course with Professor Emeritus of Sociology James Spates for more than 20 years, taking HWS students to both New York City and Toronto for five days each as part of their regular coursework.
Mara O'Laughlin ’66, L.H.D. ’13, Co-Chair of Culture of Respect
A passionate advocate for women's education, Mara O'Laughlin served as the director of admissions of William Smith College from 1974 to 1992, and of Hobart and William Smith Colleges until 2005. In 2005, she took on the role of assistant vice president for institutional advancement for the William Smith College Centennial Fund which resulted in the creation of the William Smith Centennial Center for Leadership. She also played a pivotal role in fundraising for the Performing Arts Center, helping to frame the scope of the largest capital project in the Colleges' history.
