Award Description
The Excellence in Diversity and Inclusion award honors the significant contributions of faculty and staff to the advancement of diversity and inclusion efforts on campus or in the Geneva community. The award recognizes the accomplishments of one faculty member, and one staff member on an annual basis.

Process
The Diversity, Equity and Social Justice (DESJ) sub-committee, along with two student representatives, facilitates the nomination process, reviews nominations and identifies recipients. All nomination letters for the award should be submitted to the chair of DESJ. Recipients of the award are recognized during the last faculty meeting of the semester. Nominations are due to DESJ by 5pm on April 14th.

Eligibility
Any current faculty or staff member is eligible for nomination. Self-nominations are not accepted.

Criteria
Nominees can reflect a broad range of efforts that enhance diversity and inclusion such as: inclusion-centered initiatives; efforts to support recruitment and retention of diverse faculty, staff and/or students; teaching and/or scholarship that expands and embraces our understanding of inclusiveness; efforts that advance diversity on campus; multicultural programming or initiatives that promote dialogue; or related efforts and initiatives.

The primary review criteria for the evaluation of nominees are listed below.

  1. Nominees must have demonstrated outstanding accomplishments that have increased awareness and understanding of diversity and inclusion.
  2. Nominees must have promoted a campus environment that is inclusive and welcoming while embracing and nurturing human differences.
  3. Nominees must have advocated for the interests of under-represented populations.

Please note
This award is intended for those who go above and beyond their assigned duties to promote diversity. Therefore, employees who have functions related to diversity and inclusion as their primary or secondary job responsibilities are not eligible for the award unless they have made an extraordinary contribution beyond their employment role.
